We're FINALLY buying a place! We'll be moving in the fall. We have a signed Purchase & Sale Agreement and we've handed over a check, which means it's official, barring any financing glitches or acts of God.
I'll tell you all about the place in another post. For now, I just want to savor the fact that we've finally accomplished what we thought would be an easy, pleasant task once upon a time.
For the record, we've been wanting to move since 2008. At that point we'd been happy here for a decade and thought we'd live here for another decade or two. But suddenly everything changed... when our neighbors changed. But it wasn't until 2010 that we had the wherewithal to enter the market — with a relocation package, of all things, from my husband's new employer across the river.
Many of you have been along with us on at least some of this nearly six-year odyssey. Thank you for putting up with me as I continually found fault with just about every condo and house we looked at, with their trendy "improvements" (which to us preservation types were anything but) and cheapo contractor-grade renovations.
Thank you for holding your breath as we weighed pros and cons and added up figures and made offers on condos and coops and houses in Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Newton Highlands, Brookline (Coolidge Corner, Washington Square, Beaconsfield...), and the South End, and debated about making offers on places in Cambridge, Bay Village, Brookline Village, the Leather District, Arlington, Somerville, Newton Center, Quincy, Charlestown, East Boston, Belmont, Amesbury, Salem, (Amesbury?? Salem??), Concord, and, oh my God, Lowell.
We're moving a block and a half up the street. More to come!
